This is a unique service offered to Canadian Powder Tour guests. It is not available with any other operator.
As locals to Fernie, having been an integral part of the resort’s development, our terrain knowledge is second-to-none with many areas explored by hiking and touring before they became accessible by ski-lifts.
Also "who you know" is key on the days of big snowfalls, so we can aquire the first-hand knowledge of which areas / bowls are about to open, giving you thrill of being the first to shred down a vast, untouched bowl of powder!
Trust in us and our experience as knowledgeable locals!
The chalet guiding is aimed towards the higher level skier/rider. The resort offers a complimentary hosting service for anything up to and including red runs . This service is highly praised and allows groups, families and couples to ski at different levels in the mornings, without having to be alone and reunite for lunch.
Many guests return year after year, having found the chalet’s guiding to be a key factor – the quality of terrain accessed would require expensive backcountry guides in European resorts.
Canadian Powder Tours are aware that our guests could not experience the same terrain and hidden runs by following a map. Our guiding is the true ski/riding adventure experience we wish our guests to enjoy. Fernie is unprecedented for such discovery. Guiding does not venture into out of bounds; equally there are numerous small hikes to remote corners.
CAT SKIING/BOARDING
Cat ski-ing/boarding is available as a day tour. Guests are picked up at the chalet at 7.45am and return at 5pm. The cats are a 20-minute drive. This is a highly recommended day trip for the powder lovers! You can expect between 8-10 runs all in a day. Enjoy!
AVALANCHE COURSES
Recreational avalanche courses are offered through Canadian Powder Tours on set date throughout the season. The course is 2 evenings and 2 full days in the field. We recommend this course to anyone who enjoys powder skiing & riding.
HELI-SKIING/RIDING
The nearest Heli-skiing/riding is at the breathtaking ‘Purcell Mountains’. It is a 3.5 hour drive from Fernie. We can organize this as a day trip. We do recommend an overnight stay so you can enjoy the adrenaline and magical aura without the exhaustion from travelling!
